Timberplay open their first UK skate park

Share

Hull’s Pennine Way is the proud recipient of the UK’s first Timberplay skate park, including state-of-the art pre-fabricated skate elements from Concrete, designed to deliver exceptional ride-ability. The opening on Monday 17th November saw a group of skaters from The Works taking to the concrete to put the park through its paces. Designed by skaters, for skaters, and utilising the best materials for improved performance, this street style park is set to become a skaters’ favourite.

The park was opened by one of Hull’s biggest landlords, Riverside, and has been years in the planning. Local teenagers, Gareth and Chris Foote began campaigning for a skate park years ago, working with the Friends of the Furness Group to campaign for a skate facility on the Bransholme estate. With backing from the Council, Riverside worked with Reform Landscapes in Leeds and Timberplay to create an exceptional skate park for the community. Joanne Sheridan, Director of TimberplaySport said:-

“The people of North Bransholme, and the sun, came out to support and celebrate the opening of the wheeled sports park which was the culmination of a fantastic community project. Timberplay are looking forward to hosting many competitions and events with the users at the park”

The ribbon cutting was carried out by Deputy Mayor, Councillor Anita Harrison and representatives from the Friends of Furness; brothers Garethand Chris Foote, Paddy Hewick and Barry Foote.DMC_171114_skate-16

The park has been created using a combination of prefabricated elements, for example the penny, london gap and funbox, and bespoke in-situ features such as the volcano and pool corner. Timberplay worked closely with their Dutch partners, 2Move, a specialist skate design consultancy established by landscape designers with a passion for skating. They utilise Concrete pre-fabricated elements, widely recognised as provider of some of the best performing skate elements across the world.

The attendance at the launch was fantastic, with families gathering to see the long anticipated park opening. There was a raffle for local children, with prizes of scooters, skateboards and safety equipment up for grabs. The Works Skate Charity came along to put on BMX and Scooter demonstrations as well as offering coaching advice.
