Cutting edge city college stays ahead of the curve with PVC-U Trunking

Share

Marshall-Tufflex’s sleek new Sterling Curve cable management system has been fitted throughout a new £13 million building at City College Plymouth in Devon.

The Regional Centre of Excellence for STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) is the biggest investment in skills training in Plymouth for many years and is the college’s direct response to the skills shortages identified in the region over the past decade.

Sterling Curve Profile 1 has been used as a dado trunking system to supply data to all teaching areas in this state-of-the-art facility, and contributes to the high spec finish. The Cat 7a compliant trunking is part of Marshall-Tufflex’s popular and proven Sterling range. It is easy and cost effective to install and incorporates a 25mm bend radius that allows it to easily tackle corners.

Contractor Dan Rendell, of Totus Engineering, Exeter, said: “We used around 800m of white Sterling Curve in the build and it is a great product. This new curved version looks a lot sleeker and more modern than older style trunking systems and it was also really straightforward to install, proving easy to fit around bends.

“I would use this system again based on the fact that it is good quality and easy to install when compared to its peers. In terms of value it also stood up on price.”

The medium sized PVC-U trunking has three segregated compartments to aid streamlined cable management. The trunking profile – which is curved top and bottom – is specifically designed to stop clutter, prevent dust traps and be easily cleaned.

Available in white or charcoal as standard, fittings include flush power and data accessories and boxes that comply with Part M/DDA requirements for visual impairment.

The STEM Centre provides a flexible learning environment that simulates ‘real work’ scenarios with industry-standard workshops, science and sport laboratories, and media studios.

Martin Sings, from City College Plymouth, was delighted with the finished building. He said: “We have previously used Marshall-Tufflex products and found them to be of excellent quality.  The STEM Centre is a wonderful building and we are really pleased with the finish.”

Edmundson Electrical in Plymouth supplied the Sterling Curve products, which are also available in a Bio antimicrobial version, and include adjustable data boxes that can be screened against electromagnetic interference.
