Wallbarn announces the launch of its new product brochure, ready for Spring 2017

New for this year are a new range of pedestals for paving and timber decking, designed to give greater flexibility and scope to installers.

Wallbarn has been supplying pedestals and support pads in UK for over 20 years we are constantly developing new products and designs to help installers of suspended paving and decking systems. We are proud to offer the most comprehensive range of support pads and pedestals in UK.

Clients require higher quality finishes these days and it is important that extremely precise height thresholds are met. Our clients told us they wanted a solution for paving or decking at extremely low heights, and existing fixed height pads were not always a good enough solution.

Wallbarn listened and set out to develop a better solution. We spent over 12 months designing a fully adjustable, telescopic pedestal suitable to hold both paving slabs and timber joists (as part of a decking build-up). We now announce the launch of the MINI MEGAPAD 10-20mm. This pedestal is fully adjustable so split-millimetre differences in height are achievable. These 100% polypropylene pedestals are strong and load bearing, designed to be in situ long-term. At these very tight height levels adjustment is a problem, so we designed the pad with a series of spokes around the circumference and a large handle on one side to allow “fat fingered” contractors to twist the units whilst the slab is in place.

Each unit has a telescopic thread 5mm high. The “pedestal” comes as a kit with a 5mm thick extension plate which clicks to the underneath of the base. Move the unit from 10-15mm without the plate, add the plate and adjust from 15-20mm. For larger height thresholds, users should then move to the Mini Megapad 22-30mm and 28-37mm.

The interface with the paving slab or timber joist is identical to the higher pedestals. The standard 2mm thick lug fittings for the paving pedestals can be clicked into position in the same way as other Megapads. Wider lugs, for a wider gap between slabs, can also be used in conjunction with the MINI MEGAPAD 10-20mm. For timber decking schemes, a large range of joist holder fittings are available.

Why has Wallbarn developed such a low height pedestal? Mainly due to the increasing levels of retro fitting in paving and decking systems. Obviously it is far easier to overlay, rather than take up and replace old terrace surfaces. However, this presents issues such as restricted height thresholds around areas such as existing doors and windows on roof decks and terraces. This is why we have developed the MINI MEGAPAD 10-20mm.

Also new for 2017 are the BALANCE adjustable paving pedestals. Consider roof decks laid on built-up felt membranes, where a sizeable overlap across the rolls exists. This leads to ridges being present across the roof and sometimes the pedestal “pivoting” across these ridges.

Although slope correctors and shims are also effective on these areas and areas such as blemishes in concrete screed, for example; we felt developing a levelling headpiece would offer a good solution for the client.

The BALANCE headpiece auto-levels up to a maximum change of 5%, so it can arrest a fall up to 5% – or approx. 2 degrees. This headpiece is different to other self-levelling heads on the market. The pedestals will remain stable and the centre of gravity will pass through the centre of the pedestal, eliminating the risk of the pedestal slipping on the ridge areas. For further falls or slopes Wallbarn’s slope correctors can be added to the baseplate, up to a maximum slope of 10%. For roofs with greater than a 10% fall, pedestals are not the recommended solution.

Wallbarn offers the BALANCE adjustable pedestal range in heights from 25mm up to 395mm at the highest point. It is truly a product designed to accommodate unknown problems which arise on site.

Wallbarn is also announces launching a very simple but very effective product for use when paving up to walls and parapets. The metal plate for paving is a simple stainless steel plate which is placed on top of the headpiece on pedestals laid up to the wall. As Wallbarn’s standard baseplates are 200mm in diameter and the headpieces are 150mm in diameter, the end slab can overhang the headpiece slightly, risking that slab tipping if a person was to stand on the very lip. By adding the metal plate for paving, that edge slab is supported completely, creating a safer area on balcony edges.

Wallbarn is always listening to its clients and trying to find ways to give more options for deal with their requirements. We have led the way in UK in developing new designs of pedestals and we continue to innovate and improve methods to install high quality suspended paving and decking on structural surfaces.
