TICKETS NOW AVAILABLE FOR BIID ANNUAL CONFERENCE, 2016

The British Institute of Interior Design (BIID) is pleased to announce that tickets are now on sale for its 6th annual conference. As a firmly established event in the design calendar, this year’s conference, entitled ‘Interior Identities’, will explore the theme of cultural, social and individual identities in interior design. Attendees will also dissect the complex concept of ‘identity’ in design through engaging and informative speeches and panel discussions by leading industry experts.

Taking place on Thursday 16th June 2016, this year’s conference will be making its debut at the magnificent Royal Geographical Society’s HQ in London. Throughout the day, ‘Interior Identities’ will be approached from varying perspectives, covering identities in relation to interior designers and their clients, the spaces they create and the places where these concepts are conceived. An impressive line-up of speakers from different disciplines will explore how the identities of people, cultures and contexts intersect with and influence our interior environments.

Last year’s conference marked the Institute’s landmark 50th anniversary and drew its biggest audience to date of over 250 delegates from across the design spectrum, including interior designers, media and leading industry figures. Speakers included iconic design expert Zeev Aram OBE; Editor of Elle Decoration, Michelle Ogundehin; critic and TV presenter Tom Dyckhoff and international architect, interiors and furniture designer, Tomoko Azumi. The speaker line-up for 2016 will soon be announced.

“After hosting the BIID’s most successful conference ever last year, we are thrilled to announce that tickets are now on sale for the Institute’s biggest event of the year,” comments Katherine Elworthy, COO of the BIID. “The theme of this year’s conference will explore and deconstruct what ‘identity’ means within our industry. Once again, we’re looking forward to seeing our fellow design professionals gather in another engaging, informative and thought-provoking conference, which aims to provoke debate and stimulate new ideas.”

The 2016 Annual Conference will also provide the opportunity to present the Institute’s Honorary Fellowships, created to recognise those who have had a profound impact on the development and success of the interior design profession. Last year, the BIID honoured influential design expert Zeev Aram OBE; Christine Losecaat, creative industry strategist; Kevin McCloud MBE, author, broadcaster and designer; Dids Macdonald OBE, CEO of Anti Copying in Design (ACID) and Martin Roth, the Director of the Victoria and Albert Museum.

About the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID)

Established in 1965, the BIID is the professional institute for interior designers in the UK.

The BIID’s growing national and international membership represents both the commercial and residential sectors, from heritage to cutting edge. In addition to rigorous entry requirements that assess training, experience and professionalism, the Institute requires members to continue their professional development throughout their career, ensuring their continued expertise in design process, practice and regulatory matters.

The BIID has been granted the prestigious and rare accolade of Institute status by the Minister of State. The Institute’s mission is to encourage and support creativity and competence in the field of interior design through facilitating best practice, practical professional support, development opportunities and education.

On the national stage, the BIID is a full member of the Construction Industry Council and, as a result, is now part of Government consultations to advise on new policy and legislation. Internationally, the BIID is represented on the board of the International Federation of Interior Architects and Designers. More details at www.biid.org.uk.
