Orion Primary School, London Borough of Barnet

The stars are shining at the new Orion Primary School in the London Borough of Barnet thanks to its exciting new Supacord carpet, supplied by UK-based fibre bonded carpet manufacturer Heckmondwike FB.

As its motto is ‘recognising the star in everyone’, the Ofsted Outstanding school required the carpet to be incorporated with stars in several different colours throughout the corridor areas. Heckmondwike FB supplied 2,600m2 of Supacord carpet tiles in purple, graphite, orange, willow, azure, blueberry, emerald, steel and violet, as well as over 220 tiles in graphite with individual stars cut out. Installed by Hertfordshire-based flooring contractor Rees Flooring, the end result created a stunning effect for the school.

H2100m2 of specialist entrance area carpet Hippo was also specified in Slate and Anthracite colourways for the entrance areas to the school. This popular entrance area cleans shoes and acts as an interceptor to dirt and moisture, as part of enhancing the lifespan of the carpet.

Chris Flathers, Headteacher of Orion Primary School, said: “The carpet was chosen as it offered a wide choice of colours to reflect our corporate identity and provide a very positive feel to the school. It was very important that ‘Recognising the Star in everyone’ could be reflected in the carpet too, reinforcing the message to pupils on a daily basis.”

Abby Chandler, Marketing Manager for Heckmondwike FB, said: “Supacord is a very popular choice with schools, not least because it is extremely robust and helps create the aesthetics that they are looking for. We were delighted to be able to meet Orion Primary School’s design aspirations for their flooring and hope this will inspire their pupils for a long time into the future. The carpet will help create a positive learning environment for the school, inspiring pupils to raise their attainment levels.”

H3Orion Primary School. which has over 550 pupils, will benefit from a long lasting flooring solution, with Hippo entrance area used in combination with Supacord to provide low maintenance and prolong the aesthetics of the carpet.
The new Orion Primary School was built just over a mile away from the previous school, which was too small to accommodate the number of children requiring a school place in the area. The new school is part of the London Borough of Barnet’s plans to increase the number of primary school places in the borough.

Available in a choice of 42 colours, Supacord is a popular choice for school carpet where aesthetics are important. The school will benefit from the durability of Supacord, which is renowned in the education sector, where it is vital that floorcoverings are able to withstand heavy wear and tear, making it ideal for classroom carpet. Supacord is also popular where sustainability is important, as it has been assessed by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) and has gained a BRE Global A+ environmental rating for use in school buildings, offices and retail outlets.
