New £10m Edinburgh Neurology Clinic utilises Komfort’s partition and storage solutions

Komfort’s double glazed partitioning and storage walls have been installed at the Anne Rowling Regenerative Neurology Clinic at Little France, Edinburgh due to their exceptional hygienic qualities.

Founded and built from a donation of £10m from the world-famous author of the Harry Potter novels, JK Rowling, the Anne Rowling Clinic is a University of Edinburgh clinical research facility, hosting NHS out-patient clinics and undertaking patient-based clinical research and trials into degenerative neurological conditions.

At the Anne Rowling Clinic, eight of Komfort’s double glazed Polar Vision partitions were installed. These are dry-jointed partitions, constructed without mullion posts to provide a seamless style, and were used mainly to front the consulting rooms. In facilities such as this, hygiene and cleanliness are of the highest priority and the Komfort products installed can be wiped clean with ease, significantly lowering the risk of infection and contributing to a hygienic environment for both patients and staff.

Komfort partitions were also used to create a unique space for the main office, aptly named the ‘Glassbox’. Within this space, two KM3 storagewalls were installed, with two more in the Clinic reception. David Kelly, from contractor Souness and Boyne, said: “Overall, the look and quality of the products installed provide a superior finish and look fantastic. The Komfort partitions provide a great source of natural light.”

The KM3 delivers a high volume of storage and saves up to 30% of floor space compared with standard filing systems. The interior of the KM3 has also been designed to offer maximum storage capability and features a tool-free installation, so if there were to be a change to the office, the internal layout can be reconfigured quickly and easily.

Shuna Colville, Clinic Manager, said: “With 600,000 people a year being diagnosed with a neurological condition, research and trials like those being carried out at the Anne Rowling Clinic are a medical necessity. Komfort’s KM3 storagewalls are modern, stylish and functional, while the glass partitions enhance the light and sense of space captured by the architecture of the Clinic.”

The famously philanthropic writer founded the clinic in 2010, in honour of her mother, Anne Rowling, who sadly died from complications of multiple sclerosis in 1990.
