The Lighting Industry Association (LIA) Announce Winner of ‘Delight in Light’ 2014 Competition
The LIA’s 2014 ‘Delight in Light’ competition has been won by Peter Iveson, a recent graduate of Dundee University with a strong passion for practical design. Peter’s design ‘Study Bright‘, offered an alternative, low running cost solution powered by three very bright LEDs that allows students to study in total darkness for the cost of one tea candle each evening. If the user needs to move away from their work space then the light can be simply folded into a torch and carried around for short periods of time.
‘Delight in Light’ is the LIA’s national student lighting designer competition which aims to promote the very best in lighting design and sponsored by Angelpoise. This years’ competition saw 64 entries whittled down to eight finalists, all of whom were invited to exhibit at 100% Design at Earls Court, London. Visitors to the show were asked to vote for their favorite design with over 2,000 votes taken and four entries were chosen to be in the public final, these were:
- Max Ashford with Quercus – Falmouth University
- Peter Iveson with Study Bright – Dundee University
- Callan Jones with Thinking Inside the Box – Sheffield Hallam University
- Alison Smith with Geometric pendant Lighting – Nottingham Trent University
The judging panel of ‘Delight in Light’ 2014 consisted of Peter Hunt (The LIA), Simon Terry (Anglepoise) and Alex Taylor (Alexander Taylor Studio). Peter Hunt commented “Speaking on behalf of the judging panel, we were extremely impressed with the excellent presentations from all entrants and the result was very close in the end. The judging panel and all those involved in the competition would like to thank the four finalists for their hard work and excellent standard of submission”. ‘Delight in Light’ strives to promote the very best in new lighting design each year and allows a fair judgment by offering a public voting process.
