Komfort Joins the BIM Revolution

Komfort is the first UK partitioning system manufacturer to offer Building Information Modelling (BIM) objects for its Polar Vision frameless glazed partitioning system. The objects are available in Autodesk Revit and Bentley software formats as well as an IFC file, which is used for the creation and exchange of data between different BIM software formats.

By 2016 all government projects will need to comply with BIM Level 2 as part of the UK Government’s construction strategy. As a collaborative rich information model, BIM can be shared across all project stakeholders including architects, engineers, manufacturers, contractors and facilities managers. The model utilises digital technologies, which allow for more efficient methods of designing, creating and maintaining buildings. This is achieved through the embedding of key product and asset data along with the creation of a 3D computer model. As such, effective management of information can be achieved throughout a project lifecycle – from earliest concept right through to operation.

This form of modelling provides a host of benefits including be being able to resolve issues before construction, the detection of clashes, increased efficiency and reduction in administration. In addition, better-informed decisions can be achieved as well as quicker decision making, improved quality and safety, reduced waste, a greater cost certainty and increased profitability. As a result, investor confidence is increased and claims are minimised, which reduces insurance premiums.

Franz Lorenschitz of Komfort commented, “Komfort recognises the growing importance of BIM within the interior fit-out sector and providing BIM objects is a key objective for the company. Polar Vision is the first product range to go through the process and we hope to roll this out to further ranges in the not too distant future.”

Komfort’s BIM objects are available to download free of charge from the National BIM library – http://www.nationalbimlibrary.com. For more information on Komfort visit http://www.komfort.com.
