A beautiful addition to any garden or outdoor space, Hartley Botanic bespoke glasshouses have been the inspired choice of generations of growers. Loved and admired both here in the UK and in the USA, the Hartley story starts just after the Second World War.
Inspired engineering that’s always set the standard
Inspired by the inventiveness and pioneering spirit of Sir Joseph Paxton, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and other engineering greats of the Victorian era, Vincent Hartley began developing his original aluminium glasshouse in 1938.
Believing that his structure should provide a clean, uncluttered and practical space, Hartley’s design was the first to utilise light yet strong purlins and joists to create a space that was free of internal bracing. By maximising the area of glass in this way, Hartley could ensure optimal natural light and the perfect conditions for growing.
Continuing to innovate, Hartley refined his design adding marine quality stainless steel fixings for improved durability and thermo plastic rubber to edge and separate the glass from the metal. We were also the first manufacturer to use toughened safely glass – setting the standard across the industry.

Today, Hartley Botanic continues to produce the finest glasshouses money can buy from our original factory in Greenfield, on the outskirts of the Peak District.
Each one is handmade to order to meet our customer’s exact needs and specification, just as it’s always been. A range of accessories is also available, from decorative staging and shelving to roller blinds and grow lights to further personalise any design.
