Harrogate Borough Council appoints Farrell and Clark

Architects Farrell and Clark LLP have been appointed by Harrogate Borough Council to develop proposals for new civic accommodation on its Knapping Mount site. The new Civic building could rationalise five of the councils existing offices onto a single site.

The proposed building is located on an existing council owned site that sits within a conservation area.  The design aims to make a positive contribution to the local area whilst displaying sensitivity to the conservation area in which it sits.  By significantly reducing energy use in comparison to the existing facilities, the design for the new building could deliver long term cost efficiencies and reduce ongoing building maintenance.

A final decision on whether to go ahead with the proposal will be considered by the council in summer 2015.

Based in London and Leeds, Farrell & Clark have a reputation for delivering quality architecture in both public and commercial sectors.  The firm has been recognised for the quality of their buildings with success in many national and regional awards, most recently the re:centre at the University of Bradford, crowned the ‘Best Sustainable Project’ at the West Yorkshire LABC Building Excellence Awards, and believed to be one of the world’s most sustainable buildings.
